Alterations in Serum Globulins during T H E Formation and Resorption of Amyloid in Rabbits* by Goetz

چکیده

For example, it has been found that the serum protein patterns of patients suffering from amyloidosis are often abnormal (1-4), that abnormal serum globulins and amyloid may both be present in patients with multiple myeloma (5-7), and that the incidence of amyloidosis is high in hyperlmmunized horses (8). Yet no single abnormality of the blood proteins has thus far been clearly related to amyloidosis; indeed, the electrophoretic patterns of serum proteins from patients with advanced amyloidosis are variable (1-4). Hence there is reason to question whether abnormalities of the circulating proteins play a part in the pathogenesis of the disease. More evidence on this point has been sought in the present study.

Alterations in Serum Globulins during the Formation and Resorption of Amyloid in Rabbits

A marked increase of the serum beta globulins was found in rabbits developing amyloidosis as a result of prolonged treatment with ribonucleate administered by subcutaneous injections. Following cessation of treatment the beta globulin levels gradually returned to normal while the gamma globulin levels rose strikingly, the changes being accompanied by a resorption of amyloid from the spleen, and...

Inhibitory Effect of Cinnamomum Zeylanicum and Camellia Sinensis Extracts on the Hen EggWhite Lysozyme Fibrillation

Background & Aims: Many neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson and Huntington diseases are associated with the deposition proteinaceous aggregates known as amyloid fibrils. Currently, there is no approved therapeutic agent for inhibition of fibrillar assemblies. One important approach in the development of therapeutic agents is the use of herbal extracts. At the present com...

Serum Enzymes Studies in Scorpion (Hemiscorpius lepturus) Dose Related Envenomation in Rabbits

Hemiscorpius lepturus is medically important scorpion species present in the south and southwest part of Iran, causing morbidity and mortality in children and adults. Unlike other scorpions studied so far, the venom of H. lepturus is highly cytotoxic, that can be a reason for its complexity in clinical manifestations in patients stung by this scorpion. Scarce studies showed the mechanism invol...

Effect of ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol supplementations on serum leptin, tumor necrosis factor alpha, and serum amyloid A levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective: Diabetes mellitus Type 2 is one of the most widespread chronic metabolic diseases. In most cases, this type of diabetes is associated with alterations in levels of some inflammatory cytokines and hormones. Considering anti-inflammatory properties of plant extracts rich in ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), anti-diabetic properties of these two well-known anti...

Experimental Hyperglobulinemia

It was shown, by means of salt fractionation procedures and electrophoresis that a marked and sustained hyperglobulinemia regularly resulted when sodium ribonucleate was injected subcutaneously at frequent intervals into rabbits undergoing immunization with horse serum. The hyperglobulinemia was characterized by a large increase in the gamma globulin levels, and a slight increase in the alpha a...
